Expensive Pilates Class, Is it worth it?

One gym in my town offer a Pilates Class for $200 per session! Wow, I’m surprised. So I’m wondering how does expensive class like this differ from those $40 per session class? Is the money worth the result? Thanks.

  1. Wow is right! How I wish that my studio could be able to charge those sort of rates!! A private or semi private session where an instructer works only with 1-4 clients at a time individually instructing and supervising each client is going to be more expensive and worthwhile than joining in a large group class where up to 30 people are taught by 1 instructer and everyone is doing the same thing. To me $200 per session is much too expensive for anyone and quite honestly I would not encourage anyone to pay it. Avoid the gyms and fitness centres and shop around for a reputable Pilates studio that charges reasonable rates. Here in Australia studio rates vay from $40.00 to $90.00 per session and session length may vary from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. I think that those sort of prices are more reasonable. And always ask what to expect from the studio and instructer for your money.

  2. I agree. Those prices are way over the top. The most expensive private I have seen is $100 and that was with a master teacher who was desinated as a master teacher by a elder. A normal price is around $60 and if they have a studio in a pricey part of town maybe $80. The only way you could get me to pay $200 would be if the session was with an elder.

  3. My insurance (BCBS PPO) covers “wellness clinic” services. I pay a co-payment at the beginning of each week and can take advantage of services offered which include a personal trainer who teaches pilates. I suggest you explore this option. I would have never been able to afford a trainer under any other circumstances. Email me at nina_sonsini@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

  4. I went to my first Pilates class yesterday. It was $5 (sr. citizen price), 1 hour, and there were only two of us!
